Chris Carrino is the long-time radio voice of the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets who, himself, suffers from the life-altering effects of FSHD. The Chris Carrino Foundation for FSHD, based in the New York metropolitan area, is a U.S. 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization working towards improving the lives of those affected by FSHD by funding scientific research in an effort to treat and eventually cure this disease.
Since 2011, this growing organization has raised awareness as well as hundreds of thousands of dollars for FSHD research. Recent projects funded include the creation of an FSHD animal model for therapeutic development and the funding of a post doctorate fellow focused on developing an FSHD therapy.
Other projects include a scholarship program designed to reward and inspire young people courageously following their dreams despite their FSHD diagnosis.
